CENTER ICE SPOTLIGHT: UMAR KHAN | EAST HARLEM, NEW YORK

Updated: Sep 3, 2020

INTRODUCING UMAR KHAN!

My name is Umar Khan, born and raised in East Harlem, NY. I come from a Pakistani family and even though there weren't any Pakistani hockey players when I was growing up, it didn't discourage me to try to change that! I joined a non profit program called IHIH and my passion of the sport evolved expediently. Everything about it intrigued me and I instantly fell in love with it! The sport has taken me to many parts of the world and has shaped me into the person I am today. I've played for many teams such as, the NYC cyclones 18U AA team and the NYC Roots AAA 19U Tournament team. Playing at a higher level led me to receive offers to play at the D1 ACHA level. At the end of my hockey career I was given the chance to play Junior B hockey with the Metro Fighting Moose in Brooklyn.

I feel it's a good opportunity to show kids of different backgrounds that they can play hockey too and be successful with the sport!
