My name is Umar Khan, born and raised in East Harlem, NY. I come from a Pakistani family and even though there weren't any Pakistani hockey players when I was growing up, it didn't discourage me to try to change that! I joined a non profit program called IHIH and my passion of the sport evolved expediently. Everything about it intrigued me and I instantly fell in love with it! The sport has taken me to many parts of the world and has shaped me into the person I am today. I've played for many teams such as, the NYC cyclones 18U AA team and the NYC Roots AAA 19U Tournament team. Playing at a higher level led me to receive offers to play at the D1 ACHA level. At the end of my hockey career I was given the chance to play Junior B hockey with the Metro Fighting Moose in Brooklyn.

I feel it's a good opportunity to show kids of different backgrounds that they can play hockey too and be successful with the sport!

Give opportunities to kids to look up to that they can relate to!

Fun fact: Decided to become an engineer for the Navy after graduating high school!

Has to be Crosby. Even though I'm a huge rangers fan. I grew up watching Crosby and he is someone who is humble and very much a leader. I've been a huge fan as a kid and still am up to this day.

You miss 100% of the shots you don't take by the man himself Willie O'ree. This quote has helped me on the ice and off the ice. Life is all about taking risks and chances. You'll never know until you actually go for it!

My dream for men hockey would be to have more diversity in the game from people from all over !!
